In the end of 1913, Theodore Roosevelt and Cândido Rondon went to an expedition in the Amazon Forest during 54 days. The experience was documented in the book Throught the Brazilian wilderness, fully available online.
The adventure began in Paraguay and the book documents every specie found by the crew and their amazement with the beautiful landscape.
However, the expedition also faced some problems: Almost every member of the expedition suffered with insects and Malaria; The food provisions were ill-conceived forcing the team on starvation diets; And the the canoes were unsuitable to the constant rapids and were often lost.
In 2010, the expedition was the topic of the article Roosevelt and Rondon unveil a river in the Amazon, published in História, Ciências, Saúde – Manguinhos (vol.17, no.3, 2010).
