Three years ago we launched a new section in our journal: historiographical review. The aim was to offer a profound and panoramic perspective of what has been achieved on selected themes and what needs more investigation. Since then we have published four historiographical reviews. We hope that these articles will become an educational tool for graduate students.
In the first one, International expositions: a historiographic approach from Latin America (HCSM vol.24 no.3 jul./set. 2017) Nelson Sanjad, researcher at Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi and professor at Universidade Federal do Pará, examines the historiography of international exhibitions, the first of which was held in London, in 1851. These events were seen as geopolitical phenomena of modernity to which are associated the rise of middle classes, nationalist and colonialist movements.
In The historiography of yellow fever in Latin America since 1980: the limits of presentism Mónica Garcia, profesor at Universidad del Rosario, Colombia, identifies two major trends in the narratives related to the disease: the fever as an agent of historical changes or linked to power relations.
A historiographic essay on the history of women, medicine, and gender, by Ana Paula Vosne Martins, profesor at Universidade Federal do Paraná, presents some of the most important works and approaches that marked this historiography with a focus on writings in the English language.
