{"id":9858,"date":"2019-02-27T07:52:17","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T10:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/?p=9858"},"modified":"2021-11-03T10:06:38","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T13:06:38","slug":"the-politics-of-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/the-politics-of-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"The politics of climate change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\">February 2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scielo.br\/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0104-59702017000400969&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso&amp;tlng=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The technopolitics of climate change: climate models, geopolitics, and governmentality<\/a>, published in HCS-Manguinhos (vol.24\u00a0no.4 Oct.\/Dec.\u00a02017), by\u00a0<span class=\"author-name\">Jean Carlos Hochsprung\u00a0Miguel<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Postdoctoral fellow at Universidade Federal de S\u00e3o Paulo, examines the climate modeling of\u00a0Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) and its implications to politics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Climate models\u00a0use\u00a0quantitative methods\u00a0to simulate the interactions of the important drivers of climate, including\u00a0atmosphere and oceans. \u00a0They are used for a variety of purposes from study of the dynamics of the climate system to projections of future\u00a0climate.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9859\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scielo.br\/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0104-59702017000400969&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso&amp;tlng=en\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9859\" class=\"wp-image-9859\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lake-Poopo\u0301.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9859\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lago Poop\u00f3, in Bolivia. What was once the country\u2019s second largest lake is now a salt flat.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to the article,\u00a0the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC &#8211; United Nations) plays out in line with the organizational principle of a \u201cbalanced geographic representation,\u201d that is, the idea of including members from various countries on the panel and assessing scientific output from member countries for use in reports.
