{"id":9335,"date":"2018-08-30T17:55:10","date_gmt":"2018-08-30T20:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/?p=9335"},"modified":"2018-08-30T17:55:10","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T20:55:10","slug":"submissions-open-for-the-2019-iuhpst-essay-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/submissions-open-for-the-2019-iuhpst-essay-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Submissions open for the 2019 IUHPST Essay Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\">September 2018<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/iuhps.net\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-9336 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/iuhpst-fb.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>The International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology<br \/>\n(IUHPST) invites submissions for the 2019 IUHPST Essay Prize in History and<br \/>\nPhilosophy of Science.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This prize competition, planned to continue on a biennial basis, seeks to encourage fresh methodological thinking on the history<br \/>\nand philosophy of science as an integrated discipline.<br \/>\nEntries in the form of an essay of 5,000\u201310,000 words in English are invited,<br \/>\naddressing this year\u2019s prize question: \u201cWhat is the value of history of<br \/>\nscience for philosophy of science?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This question is intended as a counterpart to the question for the inaugural run of the prize in 2017, which asked about the value of philosophy of science for history of science. The 2017<br \/>\nprize was won by Theodore Arabatzis of the National and Kapodistrian University<br \/>\nof Athens, for his essay \u201cWhat\u2019s in it for the historian of science?\u201d, which can be viewed here:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/iuhps.net\/media\/pdfs\/arabatzis.iuhpstprize2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/iuhps.net\/media\/pdfs\/arabatzis.iuhpstprize2017.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1535748146764000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGe83Oh31f0TQoxpamAIGmBXufZNw\">http:\/\/iuhps.net\/media\/pdfs\/<wbr \/>arabatzis.iuhpstprize2017.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">All entries should contain original work that has not previously been published. For entries written originally in another language, an English translation should be submitted, with an indication of the translator. Entries will be judged on the following criteria, in addition to general academic quality: a direct engagement with this year\u2019s prize question, an effective integration of historical and philosophical perspectives, and the potential to provide methodological guidance for other researchers in the field.\u00a0 The author of the winning entry will be invited to present the work at the 16th Congress of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and Technology<br \/>\n(CLMPST 2019) to be held at the Czech Technical University, Prague, Czechia, 5\u201310 August 2019. Presenting at the Congress will be a condition of the award.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The award will carry a cash prize of 1,000 U.S. dollars and, in addition, a waiver of the Congress registration fee. Other strong entries will also be considered for presentation at the Congress.<br \/>\nIn order to ensure this consideration, entrants should submit the entry also as an individual paper proposal for the Congress by the deadline of 15 December 2018, following the standard instructions indicated on the Congress website:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/clmpst2019.flu.cas.cz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/clmpst2019.flu.cas.cz&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1535748146764000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGmSmY741-eETVxoGbE0IsYZbFdBg\">http:\/\/clmpst2019.flu.cas.cz<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Entries for this essay prize are invited from anyone, without restriction of age, nationality or academic status. Co-authored work will be considered, but if the winning entry is a co-authored work the cash prize will need to be shared out among the authors.
