Especially, the historiography of the 19th and 20th century has tended to exclude, marginalize and trivialize women’s contribution to scientific issues, problems and developments.

There is currently a movement toward correcting this historical bias. The past twenty-five years have seen an explosion of a re-reading and re-forming of the historiography of science, by integrating women into it.

The journal invites contributions placing women at the forefront and confirming their role in the production of modern scientific and technical knowledge and its philosophical foundation. We especially welcome papers on the question of how women’s studies impacted on the traditional history of scientific values and approaches.

Language: English
Abstract–proposal: June 30th, 2018
Please send abstract to: andrea.reichenberger@uni-paderborn.de and moema@mast.br

Read about women in Science in Manguinhos:

History of women in science – in pictures – To celebrate the International’s Women’s Day, The Guardian newspaper published a collection of photos of women in science.

Zika and Aedes aegypti: new and old challenges – The current issue of HCSM (vol.24 no.4 Oct./Dec. 2017) features a debate about the zika epidemic, which came to the fore when the disease raised a series of concerns related to birth defects.

Women in Medicine Legacy Foundation Research Fellowship – Preference will be given to projects that engage specifically with the history of women physicians, other health workers, or medical scientists.

Zika virus and rubella: similarities and differences – Researcher Ilana Löwy, from the Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Médicale Paris, traces a parallel between the current zika epidemics in Brazil and past rubella outbreaks.
