Over a period of 12 years, until the MNR was ousted by a military coup in 1964, the party attempted to modernize Bolivia.<\/p>\n<p>The article\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1590\/s0104-59702017000500014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liberating the people from their \u201cloathsome practices:\u201d public health and \u201csilent racism\u201d in post-revolutionary Bolivia<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0explores\u00a0the language\u00a0that doctors and public health workers used to describe Bolivia\u2019s indigenous population in the 1950s and 1960s.<\/p>\n<div class=\"autores\">\n<p class=\"author\"><span class=\"author-name\">Historian Nicole L.\u00a0Pacino<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Assistant Professor at University of Alabama in Huntsville argues that MNR used public health as a project of cultural assimilation, and that state-sponsored health programs sought to culturally &#8220;whiten&#8221;
