Drawing on medical reports produced between the early nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries, the paper Leprosy: disease, isolation, and segregation in colonial Mozambique<\/a>\u00a0indicates the different views on leprosy between locals, doctors and missionaries.<\/p>\n Valdemir\u00a0Zamparoni,\u00a0<\/span>of the History Department at Universidade Federal da Bahia, focuses on the tensions concerning the practice of segregating lepers and its social and sanitation implications.<\/p>\n In the early\u00a0twentieth century, leprosy was one of the most feared diseases and often attracted the attention of missionaries, such as the\u00a0Swiss Henri Junod.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Junod realized that the Western and local views on disease were quite different.
