The focus is both inter- and transdisciplinary, bringing in not just psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and psychology but also history, sociology, anthropology, and education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scielo.br\/scielo.php?script=sci_issuetoc&amp;pid=0104-597020160004&amp;lng=pt&amp;nrm=iso\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6596 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/capa-23-4_frente.jpg\" alt=\"CAPA 23-4.indd\" width=\"346\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/capa-23-4_frente.jpg 541w, https:\/\/revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/capa-23-4_frente-207x300.jpg 207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This new issue \u00a0features 12 articles ranging \u00a0from the relations between Catholicism, psychoanalysis and fascism in Italy during the interwar period to the so-called neuro-disciplines of culture.<\/p>\n<p>The opening article discusses the effects of changes in the classification and understanding of mental illness since the the third revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) by the American Psychiatric Association in 1980. The document abolished the major categories in the diagnostic classification of mental illness, such as psychosis and neurosis.<\/p>\n<p>Another paper analyzes the Franciscan priest Agostino Gemelli, an important\u00a0figure of \u00a0the Italian psychology in the 1930s and 1940s.\u00a0The priest has played an important role in \u00a0the articulation between the Catholic world and fascism in Italy during the interwar period.\u00a0 The text highlights the tension between his relative openness and his commitment to authoritarian ideologies.<\/p>\n<p>Since the 1990s, several disciplines have emerged at the interface between neuroscience, and\u00a0humanities. The paper &#8220;by the brain and in the brain?&#8221;\u00a0focus on this topic. The authors provide an overview of these disciplines and of the fields\u00a0of study originated by this interaction,\u00a0such as cultural psychology and social neuroscience.<\/p>\n<p>The new issue of HCS-Manguinhos also features some articles exploring mental health in Spain. One of them examines the importance of travel and professional networks in the origins of Spanish psychiatry.
