The article Cesarean sections, perfecting the technique and standardizing the practice: an analysis of the book Obstetr\u00edcia, by Jorge de Rezende\u00a0<\/a>discusses the development of techniques for cesarean sections by doctors in Brazil, during the 20th century.<\/p>\n This study is written by\u00a0Andreza Rodrigues\u00a0Nakano,\u00a0Claudia\u00a0Bonan – both researchers of the National Institute of Women, Children and Adolescents Health Fernandes Figueira (IFF \/ Fiocruz) – and\u00a0Luiz Ant\u00f4nio\u00a0Teixeira (Fiocruz).<\/p>\n Analising the book Obstetr\u00edcia<\/a><\/em>, by Jorge Rezende, the article discusses the\u00a0normalization of the practice of cesarean sections\u00a0which established the procedure as the best way of give birth, \u00a0excluding \u00a0unpredictability, and dangers associated with the physiology of childbirth.\u00a0The obstetrician Jorge Rezende was a major contributor to the improvements\u00a0in cesarean section techniques.\u00a0 Cesarean sections have become an essential part of obstetric care and helped to drastically reduce rates of maternal and neonatal mortality. However, according to analysts, the indiscriminate use of this procedure has been shown to be harmful for the health of women and their babies.<\/p>\n This issue is specially important in Brazil.\u00a0The technique has been the subject of controversies as it has currently became the main way of giving birth in the country.
