interview<\/a> about the presence of scientific subjects in the Brazilian press in the 1960s and a selection of images of the first summer\u00a0camps for frail children<\/a> as educational and health-giving experiences\u00a0in Argentina.<\/p>\n From the analysis of texts published in the United States, one of the articles in this issue reconstructs different debates about the origin of bioethics as a discipline<\/a>.<\/p>\n With the reconstruction of these narratives, the authors seek to understand what bioethicists think about this area of \u200b\u200bknowledge and practices. The research involved conducting interviews with more than 50 bioethicists and members of hospital committees in Argentina.<\/p>\n Written in the context \u00a0of the Universal Suffrage and Prohibition in the United States, in the early twenties, the book Alcoholic Memories<\/em>, by Jack London, was \u00a0analyzed in the article Alcoholism and the aesthetics of existence: Jack London and the white logic of John Barleycorn<\/a>.\u00a0The author sought to understand how the American writer’s work \u00a0deals with the theme of the self-care, problematized by Michel Foucault in volumes 2 and 3 of The History of Sexuality.<\/p>\n The article entitled For a society without secure psychiatric hospitals, <\/a>written in the context of the Brazilian antimanicomial\u00a0movement, criticized the psychiatric model based on secure hospitals for patients with mental disorders. Another article analyzes the works of the Polish psychiatrist Kurt Goldstein and the French doctor and \u00a0philosopher Georges Canguilhem, proposing a philosophical framework of health and disease.<\/p>\n HCS-Manguinhos also features articles that address topics such as therapeutic communities<\/a>; leprosy in the Amazon<\/a>; \u00a0the acceptance\u00a0of Freudian ideas among doctors in Chile<\/a>; the emergence of the contemporary concept of old age<\/a>; the medicalization of childhood in Buenos Aires<\/a> between the 1940s and 1970s; amphibians in Spanish popular medicine<\/a>; and the debate about theology in biology<\/a>.<\/p>\n Also integrate this edition articles about the Hospital Real de Todos-os-Santos<\/a>, in Lisbon; the preservation of\u00a0the cultural heritage of health in Brazil<\/a>; the\u00a0psychiatric assistance scenarios in the Brazilian state of Paran\u00e1<\/a>; the history of veterinary medicine in Mexico<\/a>; and the work of the pharmacist Theodoro Peckolt<\/a>,\u00a0one of the most important figures in the history of the chemistry of natural Brazilian products.<\/p>\n This issue also features an interview\u00a0with journalist Eulina Cavalcante de Almeida<\/a>, editor of the woman\u2019s section of the ABC Paulista newspaper News Seller. In the 1960s, she was responsible for introducing women\u2019s and scientific issues to the paper\u2019s female readers.\u00a0The sources<\/a> section presents \u00a0the correspondence that psychiatrist Julio Porto-Carrero sent to psychiatrist Arthur Ramos in 1932 \u00a0about a concern over systematizing the translation of certain psychoanalytic concepts into Portuguese.<\/p>\n The image<\/a> section offers an article full of pictures of the first summer camps for frail children as educational and health-giving experiences provided by medical and philanthropic organizations.\u00a0This article analyzes some of these early experiences, seen here as the predecessors of social tourism, in the Province of Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n
