In the first decades of the twentieth century, polio epidemics devastated rich and \u00a0peripheral countries, causing fatalities and leaving thousands of children and adults paralyzed. The epidemics also reached Latin America.<\/p>\n

In order to contribute to the Ibero-American historiography of polio in modern times, the journal Historia, Ci\u00eancias, Sa\u00fade, Manguinho<\/a>s brought together in the dossier \u201cHistories of poliomyelitis<\/a>\u201d\u00a0articles that discuss the disease and policies taken against it in countries such \u00a0as\u00a0\u00a0Spain, Cuba, Argentina and Brazil.<\/p>\n

Coordinated by the researchers Adriana Alvarez (Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, Conicet)\u00a0and Dilene Raimundo do Nascimento (Casa de Oswaldo Cruz \/ Fiocruz), the dossier \u00a0gathers articles of researchers of the “Red de Estudios de la Polio y de la S\u00edndrome P\u00f3s-polimielitis en Iberoamerica”.<\/p>\n

Apart from this thematic dossier, this new issue of HCS-Manguinhos, brings an article about \u00a0the debate over theories about the propagation of yellow fever in the S\u00e3o Paulo press. The researchers\u00a0Soraya\u00a0L\u00f3dola and\u00a0<\/span>Edivaldo\u00a0G\u00f3is\u00a0Junior, of the University of Campinas (Unicamp) made a documentary research collecting articles of newspapers and journals published in S\u00e3o Paulo between\u00a01895 and 1903, a time that saw high indices of the disease in Brazil.<\/p>\n

The issue also features a selection of articles spontaneously submitted dealing with a range of issues, such as an Argentinian \u00a0research on attention deficit and hyperactivity in children.<\/p>\n
