The\u00a0volume is based on the 2009\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/global_health_histories\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Health Organization Global Health Histories seminar series<\/a>\u00a0of the same name, and is intended to reach out and transfer to a wider audience the knowledge generated by these landmark seminars.<\/p>\n<p>It gathers together all of the topics featured in 2009\u2019s series; leprosy, guinea worm disease, sleeping sickness, river blindness, malaria, chagas disease, kala azar, tropical disease vectors, and essential and inessential medicines, as well as new chapters on related questions.<\/p>\n<p>Each forms an independent chapter introduced by two articles, one by an academic researcher and the other by a WHO official.
