The project\u00a0explores the history of fever and febrile diseases in societies connected to the Atlantic world between 1750 and 1840.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The project studies the\u00a0prevalence and sensory experience of fever(s) in the Atlantic World, controversies about the causes of\u00a0fever \u2013 about contagionist and environmentalist views, that is \u2013 and historic fever remedies, especially\u00a0popular folk, and indigenous febrifuges. The doctoral projects are expected to center on specific regions,\u00a0focusing on the history of fever either in a southern European society (e.g., Spain, Portugal, Italy etc.)\u00a0or in one of the Iberoamerican viceroyalties (e.g. New Spain or New Granada etc.) in the given period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Your Tasks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The 5-year project is led by Professor Stefanie G\u00e4nger, starting in October 2023. The doctoral researchers\u00a0are expected to make an intellectual contribution to the FEVER project, develop their own research\u00a0agenda, engage in collaborative research, and contribute to the coordination of project-related\u00a0activities, e.g., workshops. There are no teaching obligations associated to this post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Your Profile:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills, and experience:\u00a0an excellent degree in history or history of science and medicine (or evidence that completion\u00a0of such a degree is imminent);\u00a0knowledge of the history and language(s) of the envisioned area of study;\u00a0excellent spoken and written English; working knowledge of German being an asset, but not a\u00a0requirement;\u00a0the ability to play an effective and collegial role in the life and work of the ERC project<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>They\u00a0offer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A four-year contract with social security benefits plus a budget for trips to the archives, to conferences, and toward the organization of workshops.
