{"id":15200,"date":"2023-06-30T01:48:18","date_gmt":"2023-06-30T04:48:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/?p=15200"},"modified":"2023-06-30T12:02:42","modified_gmt":"2023-06-30T15:02:42","slug":"call-for-applicants-incorporating-latin-america-and-the-caribbean-into-teaching-in-environmental-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/call-for-applicants-incorporating-latin-america-and-the-caribbean-into-teaching-in-environmental-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Applicants:  Incorporating Latin America and the Caribbean into Teaching in Environmental History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Jun, 2023<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Applications are now open for the second iteration of RECSLAC&#8217;s (<a href=\"https:\/\/cienciasysaberes.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Red de Ciencias y Saberes en Latinoam\u00e9rica y el Caribe,\u00a0Network on Sciences and Knowledges in Latin American and the Caribbean<\/a>)\u00a0one-day pedagogy workshop on integrating Latin American and Caribbean history of science into teaching in adjacent fields.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The workshop will be held just before the <a href=\"https:\/\/aseh.org\/conferences\/aseh-2024-conference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Society of Environmental History conference<\/a> in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024.\u00a0 They seek participants from diverse backgrounds who are interested in learning more about Latin American history of science and the environment and integrating content on the region into their courses. Preference in the workshop will be given to people who are not experts in Latin America, and the workshop will be particularly useful for advanced graduate students and early career faculty and professionals.\u00a0<b>RECSLAC\u00a0<\/b>will offer scholarships to at least five US-based and five Latin America-based graduate students, early career scholars or contingent faculty members to offset the cost of travel to the workshop and attendance at the ASEH meeting.\u00a0They encourage workshop participants to attend the ASEH meeting and present their work. Workshop facilitators are a team of three Latin American historians of science and the environment with expertise in a variety of times and places but the workshop will emphasize the nineteenth and twentieth- century periods.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The overarching goal of the workshop is to inspire and empower more historians to teach about Latin American science and environment.\u00a0 Participants will come away with concrete ideas for teaching modules they could build into existing classes or design new courses around. The specific focus areas for the modules will be Animals, Forests, and Conservation Science. The modules we prepare will include peer-reviewed readings, primary sources, and ideas generated from discussion.
