He was director of the\u00a0newspaper El Comercio between 1875 and his death in 1898, together with Jos\u00e9 Antonio Mir\u00f3 Quesada. As a result, local scientists had to \u201cimaginatively\u201d reshape the nature of the Andes for modernization purposes. The social and political ramifications of these ideas in Carranza\u2019s work were key to the foundation of scientific institutions such as the Geographical Society of Lima.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Palomo, J.
