The conference will be co-hosted with the Department of Political Science of University of S\u00e3o Paulo\u00a0(DCP\/FFLCH-USP).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 2019, STAND held\u00a0its first conference in Copenhagen.\u00a0the second, in 2022, was a hybrid meeting hosted in Beijing. In 2023, we will meet in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In this meeting\u00a0they\u00a0will continue\u00a0their\u00a0project of developing a more diverse and inclusive global history of science, technology and diplomacy. This meeting will consider the plurality of historical actors that have engaged with issues related to science, technology, medicine, and the environment. We aim to consider their influence and impacts in both intra- and inter-regional contexts with particular emphasis on (but not limited to) the agency, activities, and influence of actors from Latin America.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">They\u00a0invite contributions exploring a wide range of themes but in particular welcome those involving or engaging with:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u25cf Transboundaries (regionality and regional approaches; \u2018science diplomacy\u2019 and e.g., the Amazon or the Andes; transboundary water diplomacy; health issues across borders; transboundary pollution and monitoring);<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u25cf Networks and asymmetries (novel networks; South-South relations; indigenous approaches);<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u25cf Actors in \u2018science diplomacy\u2019 (local and non-governmental actors in IR; gender and \u2018science diplomacy\u2019; activism and actors in science diplomacy; indigenous approaches);<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u25cf \u2018Science diplomacy\u2019 and the Environment (conservation; water challenges);<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u25cf Materiality and \u2018science diplomacy\u2019 (diplomatic objects, water technologies,\u00a0 disaster diplomacy);<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u25cf Open Science (Open Access\/Source Science; and Digital Science Diplomacy);<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u25cf Advancing Science Diplomacy studies (theory, historiography, Southern approaches).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">They\u00a0invite submission of paper proposals which include: a title, abstract (300 words maximum), and a short CV (150 words maximum) to <span class=\"s1\">STAND@manchester.ac.uk <\/span>by 20 January 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">STAND 2023 Program Committee: Dr Aya Homei (Chair), Dr Barbara Silva, Dr Gabriela Ferreira, Dr Luciana Vieira Souza da Silva, Dr Sam Robinson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Notes:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u25cf The conference is open to scholars at any career stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u25cf The conference will be conducted in English.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u25cf\u00a0They particularly welcome submissions from Early Career Researchers, and a small number of<br \/>\ngrants to support attendance will be available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u25cf There will be no fee to attend the conference, but participants will need to fund their own travel to\/from, and accommodation in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The DHST Commission of Science, Technology and Diplomacy (STAND) exists to promote and coordinate interdisciplinary historical studies on the relationships between science, technology and diplomacy.
