Both the validity of the theory and its ethical, political and religious implications were in dispute.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1590\/S0104-59702021000400004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Henrique Rodrigues Caldeira,\u00a0Doctoral candidate at the History Department of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and\u00a0Ana Carolina Vimieiro Gomes, Professor at the same departament, analyzes a magazine intended to popularize science in this context, Evolution: a Journal of Nature (1927-1938).\u00a0The aim of this\u00a0publication\u00a0was to promote evolutionary thinking in a specific context: the controversy over teaching evolution in schools in the United States in the early twentieth century.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scielo.br\/j\/hcsm\/a\/kNs3HDX5BMsG5CSkPxBBFnH\/?lang=pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13732\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Press-release-Henrique-Caldeira.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"512\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The article <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1590\/S0104-59702021000400004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The adaptation of evolutionary thinking in its public circulation: the case of \u201cEvolution: a Journal of Nature,\u201d 1927-1938&#8243;<\/a>\u00a0seeks\u00a0to illustrate the mutability of the concept of evolution, as it was presented during the years in which\u00a0<i>Evolution<\/i>\u00a0was published.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From article to article, from editorial to editorial, the concept was transformed, adapting to the specific context in which it was being evoked, answering the questions that were more urgent at that time and ignoring elements considered of little use or unfavorable in public dispute.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Caldeira, Henrique Rodrigues\u00a0e\u00a0Gomes, Ana Carolina Vimieiro. <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1590\/S0104-59702021000400004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The adaptation of<\/a><br \/>\nevolutionary thinking in its public circulation: the case of \u201cEvolution: a Journal of<br \/>\nNature,\u201d 1927-1938, 1927-1938.
