Hist\u00f3ria, Ci\u00eancias, Sa\u00fade-Manguinhos, 2021, v. 28, n. 2.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n Oscar Nerval de Gouv\u00eaa was a scientist and teacher in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, whose work spanned engineering, medicine, the social sciences, and law.<\/p>\n The paper The \u201cTable of mineral classification\u201d by Oscar Nerval de Gouv\u00eaa: mineralogy and medicine in Brazil<\/a>\u00a0discusses a manuscript entitled \u201cTable of mineral classification,\u201d which he appended to his dissertation presented to the Faculty of Medicine in 1889.<\/p>\n Its author, Silvia Fernanda de Mendon\u00e7a Figueir\u00f4a, Professor at Universidade Estadual de Campinas\u00a0investigates the Table and explores\u00a0its foundations and main features to obtain an understanding of mineralogy and its connections in Brazil at that time.<\/p>\n Various alternative mineral classification systems were proposed during the first half of the nineteenth century, given the lack of agreement on a single system.<\/p>\n This text was Gouv\u00eaa\u2019s contribution to the various mineral classification systems which have emerged from different parts of the world.<\/p>\n Read in HCS-Manguinhos:<\/p>\n Figueir\u00f4a, Silvia Fernanda de Mendon\u00e7a.
