One important contributory factor to this was the migratory flow triggered by the creation of the free trade zone of Manaus in 1967 and other large-scale development projects in subsequent decades.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12446\" style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scielo.br\/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0104-59702020000300741&amp;tlng=pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12446\" class=\"wp-image-12446 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/AmazonIDD.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12446\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A story by Phelippe Daou about the process of creating highways and the industrialization process in Amazonas. Brazil<\/a>\u00a0(<em>HCS-Manguinhos<\/em>, v. 27, n. 3, jul\/set 2020), Cl\u00e1udio de Oliveira Peixoto (Instituto Le\u00f4nidas e Maria Deane\/Fiocruz Manaus) analyzes &#8211; from an historical perspective &#8211; the emergence of the disease in the region since the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Based on documental analysis of laws, scientific literature, research reports, epidemiological bulletins, and newspapers, it \u00a0shows that American cutaneous leishmaniasis emerged as a major health problem in Amazonas in close association with the political, economic, and
