Brazil has a long tradition in the so-called health diplomacy. For example, in the mid\u00a01990s\u00a0the country\u00a0\u00a0was an important player\u00a0in international debates on whether antiretroviral drugs for HIV treatment were commodities or public goods.<\/p>\n

However, the article\u00a0Foreign policy, diplomacy and global health in pandemic times <\/a>published in\u00a0<\/span>preprint at Scielo library<\/a>\u00a0argues that in the case of covid-19, Brazil is acting far below its diplomatic tradition.<\/p>\n

Researchers\u00a0Alexandre Andrade Alvarenga<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(UFRJ)<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Erika Maria Sampaio Rocha<\/span>\u00a0(UFSB),\u00a0<\/span>Jonathan Filippon<\/span>\u00a0(QMUL) and\u00a0<\/span>Maria Angelica Carvalho Andrade <\/a>(<\/span>Ufes)\u00a0analyses the international performance of Brazil related to the new coronavirus pandemic, taking into consideration the strategic role of foreign policy and the historic Brazilian diplomatic participation in multilateral forums, including global health.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It analyzes how Brazilian foreign policy is responding to the main domestic and international challenges related to fighting the pandemic and the country’s economic recovery, highlighting its social consequences.<\/p>\n
