The thalidomide disaster is one of the saddest episodes in the field\u00a0of pharmaceutical history.<\/p>\n
Thalidomide was a\u00a0drug widely used in the late 1950s and early 1960s for the treatment of nausea in pregnant women.<\/p>\n
However, in the 1960s became apparent that thalidomide treatment resulted in severe birth defects in thousands of children.<\/p>\n
