World Press Freedom Day, 3 May<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“No democracy is complete without access to transparent and reliable information. It is the cornerstone for building fair and impartial institutions, holding leaders accountable and speaking truth to power.” \u2014\u00a0<\/span>Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General\u00a0<\/cite><\/p>\n

World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO. The UN\u00a0sees this day\u00a0as an opportunity\u00a0to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom, defend the media from attacks on their independence and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.<\/p>\n

Stories published by the press can be a valuable source for the history of medicine. See our selection of articles with content analysis of newspapers!
