{"id":10009,"date":"2019-04-14T06:14:25","date_gmt":"2019-04-14T09:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/?p=10009"},"modified":"2019-04-14T13:35:48","modified_gmt":"2019-04-14T16:35:48","slug":"a-statement-on-science-and-technology-in-brazil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/a-statement-on-science-and-technology-in-brazil\/","title":{"rendered":"A statement on science and technology in Brazil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\" align=\"center\">April 2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10015\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revistahcsm.coc.fiocruz.br\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/20161231-fiocruz.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" \/><\/b>The Deliberative Council of\u00a0Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) &#8211; after a meeting on April 5, 2019 &#8211; has joined other scientific institutions to express intense concern about the cuts in the Federal Budget announced by the\u00a0Brazilian Ministry of\u00a0 Finance\u00a0on March 29.<\/p>\n<p>A reduction\u00a0of 42.27%\u00a0in the\u00a0budget of the Ministry\u00a0of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC),\u00a0provided by the new Decree 9.741, poses a real risk to actions\u00a0needed to\u00a0address the country&#8217;s public health problems and the development of science and technology in order to guarantee the sustainability of SUS, the Brazilian Unified Health System.<\/p>\n<p>The Deliberative Council believes that public health, education, science, technology and innovation should be considered as investments\u00a0in a national project for the economic and social development of the country.
