Hist\u00f3ria<\/i>, Ci\u00eancias, Sa\u00fade \u2013 Manguinhos<\/i>\u00a0(History, Sciences, Health \u2013\u00a0<\/i>Manguinhos) is a quarterly publication of the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz, a division within the\u00a0Oswaldo Cruz Foundation<\/a>\u00a0devoted to documentation and research in the history of science and health and also to science communication.<\/p>\n

Launched in 1994, the journal is published in both print and digital formats (available at the SciELO portal: www.scielo.br\/hcsm<\/a>) and is indexed in Brazil and abroad. The essence of the journal is captured by the words \u201chistory,\u201d \u201cscience,\u201d and \u201chealth.\u201d HCSM\u2019s concept of history reflects a perspective and a way of observing, interpreting, and addressing things that is common to a gamut of academic fields and professionals. Although the life sciences are its key focus, the journal also opens its pages to fields of knowledge that share ties with the historical approach.<\/p>\n

In its print version, the journal\u2019s graphic project incorporates architectural elements from the Moorish castle known as Manguinhos \u2013 the historic landmark in Brazilian science from which the journal derives its name and which is home to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in Rio de Janeiro. In recent years, in addition to architectural details from the castle, our covers have featured photographs, paintings, and illustrations of subjects presented in the pages of our journal.<\/p>\n

HCSM endeavors to bring together readers and contributors from an array of fields \u2013 for example, history, medicine, sociology, public health, anthropology, and philosophy \u2013 all of whom share a commitment to today\u2019s notable trend to eliminate the barriers between diverse forms of knowledge.<\/p>\n

HCSM <\/em>publishes original articles and research notes, documents and images of historical value, debates, interviews, book reviews, and digital production of relevance to the history of science and health.<\/p>\n

Manuscripts submitted to journal departments are evaluated by members of the Editorial Board and by ad hoc <\/i>peer reviewers. When changes or corrections are suggested, the original is returned to the author(s). The editors reserve the right to edit submissions in accordance with the journal\u2019s guidelines (including length). Changes will not modify style or content.<\/p>\n

Publication assigns full copyright in all languages to the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz.<\/p>\n
