The article Inhibition halos in the remediation of Amazon soils contaminated with petroleum, written by the researchers Nicolás Cuvi and Monserrathe Bejarano analyses the history of bioremediation of soils contaminated with petroleum in the Ecuadorian Amazon from 1994 to 2014.

Investigating the development of a biotechnology aimed at cleaning Amazon soils contamined with oil, the article  discusses the different aspects of research and innovation in Latin america.

According to the authors, dependence on foreign technology, insufficient internal coordination among research programs and institutions, and corruption all influenced this process.

The researchers also examine what is needed to consolidate technoscientific processes of excellence on the periphery.
