The dossier Medicine in the context of Portugal, Africa and Brazil (HCSM vol.21 no.2 abr./jun. 2014) features 10 articles ranging from the coverage of major epidemics in the Portuguese press at the end of the 19th century to a mission to combat sleep sickness in Guinea- Portuguesa between 1945 and 1974.
Among the papers, some were presented in the first Portuguese-Brazilian Encounter on the History of Tropical Medicine that was held in Lisbon in 2012.
This dossier also includes papers on traditional knowledge and examines the issue of slave trade and the circulation of diseases.
