Doctor Chernoviz and the popularization of medicine

The popular medicine dictionary, written by Pedro Luiz Napoleão Chernoviz (1812 – 1881), the Polish physician and publisher who consolidated his career  in  Brazil,  was a bestseller. The dictionary was published in six editions between 1842 and 1890, aiming mainly at a non- specialized audience.

The paper The scientific authorship of Doctor Chernoviz, from the popularization of medicine to professional training: the Dicionário de medicina popular, 1842-1890 by Aline da Silva Medeiros, research archivist, at the  Service des Archives Diocésaines d’Aix-en-Provence, was published in the current issue of HCSM(v.25, n.1, jan./mar). It reflects on the scientific authorship of Dr Chernoviz, based on his Dicionário de medicina popular.
