Covid-19 as no longer a global health emergency

May 11, 2023

On May 5th, the World Health Organization announced that COVID-19 is no longer a Global Health Emergency. However, this does not mean COVID-19 is over as a global health threat.

“As we speak, thousands of people around the world fight for their lives in intensive care units. And millions more continue to live with the debilitating effects of post-COVID-19 condition. This virus is here to stay. It is still killing, and it’s still changing. The risk remains of new variants emerging that cause new surges in cases and deaths,” said Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of the World Health Organization.

With this announcement, HCS-Manguinhos decided to end the Journal’s section, “Testimonies Covid-19,” in which researchers reflected on the pandemic in their countries. However, we will still keep all the published texts in our blog and hope that they are helpful to researchers all around the globe.
