The popular medicine dictionary, written by Pedro Luiz Napoleão Chernoviz (1812 – 1881), the Polish physician and publisher who consolidated his career in Brazil, was a bestseller. The dictionary was published in six editions between 1842 and 1890, aiming mainly at a non- specialized audience.
