The history of sociology as a field of research and some recent trends in Brazilian social thought, by João Marcelo Ehlert Maia. Hist. cienc. saude-Manguinhos, Jan 2017, vol.24, no.1.
João Marcelo Ehlert Maia (Fundação Getúlio Vargas), presents the dialog between scholars of Brazilian social thought and historians of sociology.
The paper analyzes recent developments in the field of the history of sociology as a discipline highlighting the use of historiographic methods and the emergence of a transnational approach.
He then concludes that there are some issues that need to be overcome in order to enable the dialog between the history of sociology and the Brazilian social thought: the inequalities between the scientific systems; the academic singularities of this field t in Brazil, in which essayist style of writing remains a powerful tool; and the role of Brazilian social thought in the construction of the nation-state in Brazil.
