The paper Training in epidemiology and health surveillance: Tripartite Cooperation between Brazil, Cuba, and Haiti reports a training course intended to strengthen the operational capacity of Haitian professionals in epidemiology, surveillance, and health situation analysis.

The authors, Stela Nazareth Meneghel (UFRGS, Brazil) , Joyce Mendes de Andrade Schramm (Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública Sergio Arouca/Fiocruz), Alcindo Antônio Ferla (UFRGS, Brazil) and Ricardo Burg Ceccim (UFRGS, Brazil) report their experience in the organization of a training course between 2012 and 2015 to provide support to Haiti’s Ministry of Health in activities related to epidemiology and public health.

The course contained 320 hours of classroom activities, including field research carried out by these professionals in four topics: the history of epidemics and public health in Haiti, gender equity in health services, investigation of under-reporting of deaths, and epidemiological surveillance of tetanus.
