Details of a new research funding scheme have been released by Wellcome Trust, aimed at granting research awards to Health Professionals seeking to carry out humanities or social science research into any area of human or animal health.

The scheme can be used to enroll on a PhD for those who have little or no humanities or social science experience. It can also be used to undertake postdoctoral research. Longer awards of this nature are particularly aimed at those who intend to pursue an academic career in either the humanities or social sciences

The forthcoming deadline for preliminary applications is 22nd January, with full applications required by 30th March 2016. Applicants will be shortlisted in May and interviewed in July, if successful. Another application round will begin in July, with dates to be announced soon.

The Department of History, which has a wide range of expertise in medical history and medical humanities, welcomes applications to this Wellcome Trust scheme.

For details of this funding scheme, please see the Wellcome Trust website, where details of other funding schemes are available.
