Fray Fabian of Christ.

The zealous acts of brother Fabian of Christ (08/02/1676 – 17/10/1747) and dedication to his work over a period of decades as infermarian at the Convent of Saint Anthony of Rio de Janeiro led some of the faithful to identify him as a saint after his death.

In the article The death and the miracles of brother Fabian of Christ: connections between religious beliefs and healing in eighteenth century Rio de Janeiro, William de Souza Martins, professor at the Institute of History of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, analyzes the representations surrounding the death of the servant of god based on accounts of a hagiographic nature and witness reports by the faithful after his death.

At this time, there was a notable lack of distinction between medical knowledge and religious belief.
