Women in sciences

August 2019

The special issue Women in Sciences, published by  Transversal: International Journal for the Historiography of Science (n0 6, June 2019), features a historiographical reflection  on women’s contribution to science and technology.

Laura Maria Caterina Bassi (1711 – 1788) was an Italian physicist and academic. She received a doctoral degree from the University of Bologna in 1732, being the first woman to be offered an official teaching position at a university in Europe.

This special issue features two articles on  two female figures, Helena Antipoff, one of the pioneers in the field of special education in Brazil and Sofia Alexandrovna Yanovskaya, mathematician and historian specialized in the history of mathematics.

Two studies provide an overview of the current stage of research regarding women in Computing Science and in the history of modern logic. Finally, the dossier also features a report on a school teaching project.
